Book Review; The Forty Rules of Love:
Having heard so much appreciation and recommendation about it, I decided to read “The Forty Rules of Love”. The more I grew deeper in the book, the more I understood the reasons of appreciation. Forty Rules of Love is a gorgeous, jewelled and luxurious masterpiece work of Turkish writer Elif Shafak.
Sticking to her style, Shafak chose a particular subject to write upon. The novel deals with parallel of stories of Ella, an american housewife devoid of true love,in the 21st century, and companionship of Rumi and Shams in the 13th century. The essence of this book is Love and transformation it brings in the lover.
Elif shafak writes, “ Every true love and friendship is a story of unexpected transformation. If we are the same person before and after we loved, that means we have’nt loved enough. Shafak proves her writing by showing the transformation of her characters throughout the book.
The novel discusses the Fourty rules of life and love by Shams of Tabrez, which are the essentials of love and sufism.By reading these rules and book, you might not end up as a sufi, but these rules surely can be implemented to improve your daily life. The Forty Rules of love tells us about the importance and need of love which is absent in today’s world. My words are not enough to express the true beaty of this book, so I would like end it with the help from the last rule by Shams in the book
“ A life without love is of no account. Do’nt ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, diving or mundane, Eastern or Western… Divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is, pure and simple.
“Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire!
“The universe turns differently when fire loves water.”
